Biography
Vive e lavora a Roma.
–
Flaminia Mantegazza, born in Rio de Janeiro (1955), is an Italian-Brazilian artist who trained between Rio de Janeiro, where she graduated in Economics and History and attended the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts, and Rome, where she moved in the late 1980s and attended the School of Ornamental Art and the Porta Blu School, never missing an opportunity to experience the city’s vibrant artistic and cultural scene. She lives and works in Rome.
In 1999, she began manipulating recycled paper from old books, magazines, and newspapers with great versatility, making it the preferred material for her work. Mantegazza creates mosaics, bas-reliefs, sculptures, and large-scale installations, finished with vibrant acrylic colors.
Her work often explores memory, questions time, and seeks to probe the deepest reaches of human emotion, while also demonstrating an awareness of the critical issues of the present, particularly environmental and social issues. She invites us to slow down, to feel, to question, and to share, opening the doors that lead to a silent yet powerful journey: that of emotions.
Mantegazza has exhibited regularly in solo and group shows. In 2018, she created the Map of the emotions of the City of Faenza, a large permanent vaulted installation for the Museo MUS.T in Faenza. Her work Small Diary was included in the 2015 exhibition Map of the New Art. Imago Mundi at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice. The work became part of the Imago Mundi Collection and was chosen for the cover of the catalogue “Brazil: Land of the Future” (2015).
